Catalonia was a pioneer in the development of wind energy in Spain, with the installation of the first wind turbine in the autonomous community and one of the top four in the country in 1984. Today, the region is driving a rapid shift to clean energy sources in order to meet European Union and regional government targets for renewable energy supply.
