WIND POWER PLANTS IN ASTURIAS 5o3zy
Wind power, the main renewable energy source in Asturias, produces clean electricity for thousands of Spanish households 5y415e
Wind power is Iberdrola España's main renewable energy source in Asturias. The region, traditionally linked to coal, seeks to exploit another abundant energy resource in the territory: wind. With the aim of increasing investment in renewable energy, ing local employment and contributing to the socio-economic development of the autonomous region linked to the energy transition, Iberdrola España operates six wind farms in Asturias with a total installed capacity of 203 MW.

El Candal and El Segredal Wind Farms 6z2v71
The El Candal and El Segredal wind farms are the first two wind farms that Iberdrola España commissioned in Asturias in 2013. For the construction of both wind farms, around 100 people were hired on a temporary basis and around twenty permanent positions related to operation and maintenance were created.
Both wind farms are located in the western part of the Principality and in one of the windiest areas in Spain. On the one hand, the El Candal wind farm, between the municipalities of Castropol and Boal, has a capacity of 38 MW, distributed among 19 wind turbines. On the other hand, El Segredal, in Villayón, has a capacity of 36 MW, thanks to its 18 wind turbines.
The two wind power plants have a total installed capacity of 74 MW, capable of supplying electricity to around 25,000 households and avoiding the emission of around 100,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere.
Cordel-Vidural, Capiechamartín, Panondres and Verdigueiro Wind Farms 3h702d
In addition to the two wind farms built in 2013 in the Principality of Asturias, four more were added in 2021: Cordel-Vidural, Capiechamartín, Panondres and Verdigueiro, which will triple Iberdrola España's renewable capacity in Asturias.
The wind farms are made up of large SG114 wind turbines: 56-metre-long blades, 126-tonne nacelles and towers between 80 and 93 metres high. These four wind farms are located in various Asturian municipalities: Cordel-Vidural (37 MW) is located between the towns of Navia, Valdés and Villayón. Capiechamartín (34 MW) is located between Tineo and Valdés. Panondres (21 MW) is located between Villayón and Valdés, while Verdigueiro (37 MW), between Tineo and Villayón.
With an investment of more than €100 million, the construction of these four wind farms involved the hiring of up to 1,000 professionals, boosting local industry and employment. Its execution has been one of Iberdrola Spain's most complex wind infrastructure projects: it has required a great deal of planning, due to the difficulties of the terrain and the transport of materials, and the constant changes in the weather.
The four wind farms have a total installed capacity of 129 MW, which generates electricity for more than 100,000 households and avoids the emission of 65,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere per year.
