Chimiche II, Iberdrola España's first wind farm in the Canary Islands 112r1g
Wind energy is the renewable technology that contributes most to the production of electricity in the Canary Islands , according to local government data, thanks to the optimal wind conditions in the region. The trade winds, which blow from the Atlantic Ocean towards the islands, provide a constant source of kinetic energy that can be harnessed by wind turbines to generate electricity.

Located next to Tenerife's southern motorway, the Chimiche II wind farm consists of seven 80-metre-high wind turbines. The wind farm has an installed capacity of 18.4 megawatts (MW), supplies electricity to around 15,000 households and reduces the annual emission of 33,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere.
With an investment of around 30 million euros, the construction of the wind farm has created around 200 jobs in the region and thus contributed to local economic development.
