By the end of 2023, Iberdrola España has the only wind farm in Cantabria: the Cañoneras wind farm (32.3 MW)., which is also the only wind farm in the region. The facility represents the commitment to onshore wind energy in the region as a renewable energy source with potential for the region's energy supply.

Cañoneras, located in Soba, is the first wind farm in Cantabria and the only one owned by Iberdrola España in the region. The electricity produced by this wind farm is delivered to the Ramales substation and is used by Iberdrola España., from there, is distributed efficiently. With an installed capacity of 32.3 MW, this wind farm has the capacity to supply energy to around 14,000 homes.     

The construction of the wind farm was divided into two phases: in the first phase, in 2006, 21 wind turbines of 850 kW each were installed, along with the implementation of the substation, the control building and the necessary transmission infrastructure. In the second phase, in 2010, 17 wind turbines with the same rated power were installed.

The Cañoneras wind farm, with 66,000 MWh of annual production, has demonstrated that the installation of wind farms in Cantabria can be carried out respecting environmental values. The wind farm is an example of the integration of wind energy in rural areas in various meetings of the wind energy sector in Spain.
