Ignacio Galán, the Executive Chairman of Iberdrola, attended the official reception held at 10 Downing Street, London, at the invitation of Keir Starmer, the British Prime Minister, to mark the historic summit between the United Kingdom and the European Union. The event brought together prominent business leaders and political authorities to sign a new economic and energy cooperation agreement.
Among the attendees were key figures such as the European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security, Institutional Relations and Transparency, Maroš Šefčovič; the British Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rachel Reeves; the Secretary of State for Business and Trade, Jonny Reynolds; and the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, Ed Miliband. The summit marks a turning point in post-Brexit relations, with a renewed focus on energy integration and lowering trade barriers.
The new UK–EU agreement envisages lowering trade barriers on food and drink and energy taxation by linking the UK and EU emissions trading systems. Both sides have identified other areas where they will explore closer cooperation, including the possibility for the UK to participate in the EU's internal energy markett.
Ignacio Galán welcomed the announcement and highlighted Iberdrola’s role as one of the leading investors in electricity infrastructure in the United Kingdom.
