The Aldeatejada Technology Innovation Centre: an example of economic revitalisation in Salamanca 32595y

The Technology Innovation Centre (Cenit), inaugurated in 2008 by Iberdrola in collaboration with IBM, has consolidated Aldeatejada (in Salamanca, western Spain) as one of the main technology hubs in the area thanks to its economic and social impact on the region.

Aldeatejada is the best example of Iberdrola's firm commitment to innovation and represents a real commitment to the future, progress and competitiveness of the economy of Castile and León, with a cumulative investment of close to €300 million and the creation of more than 1,000 direct jobs and 1,850 indirect jobs. This enclave has undergone a remarkable evolution in technological capabilities, including artificial intelligence, cloud services, cybersecurity, automation, digital experience and business solutions, becoming a key pillar of the digital transformation of Iberdrola and other international companies.

The Cenit model has had a powerful knock-on effect in the province, attracting new technology companies, generating synergies with local universities and promoting research and training initiatives, demonstrating that sustained investment in digital infrastructure, together with strategic alliances between large companies, public istrations and the education system, generates tangible benefits for the region. This Iberdrola project has transformed the municipality into an inclusive, resilient and internationally-oriented innovation ecosystem.

Iberdrola is currently the market leader in the development of data centres, marketing more than 10 TWh to technology companies and data centre operators worldwide. Spain has significant potential in Europe for the development of data centres, thanks to its strategic geographical position, which has consolidated its status as the gateway for global data to the continent.

It has also recently set up the company D4Green, which leverages its assets, capacity and experience to facilitate the development of sustainable data centres. D4Green has secured more than 700 megawatts (MW) in Spain and has a potential portfolio of another 5,000 MW.
